Cycle Inishowen offer bike tours, holidays and rental in County Donegal, Ireland. They opened in April 2013 with a fleet of 15 Ridgeback Velocity bikes, supplied by Hollingsworth Cycles of Dublin. Co-Founder Michael Ogden explains the decision behind choosing Ridgeback as supplier and evaluates the bikes.

We wanted to make sure that we had a reliable bike that our customers would enjoy riding. As soon as we started looking for the best spec for the money we had to spend it became apparent that Ridgeback offered the best value. I had previous good experience with Ridgeback having bought the Speed model a few years back for commuting and a tour of Denmark. I didn’t know a great deal about bikes then but it never gave me any problems and was comfortable to ride. Since then I have done several bike tours in different parts of the world and have qualified with City & Guilds as a mechanic. The Velocity has Shimano components throughout, including the rear hub which is a marked advantage over other bikes in the same price bracket such as the Specialized Sirrus. The Acera/Altus drivetrain is incredibly smooth and easy to set up. The double-wall Rigida rims seem very robust, and the puncture protection tyres give peace of mind. The adjustable stem height is a really good feature for us because our customers come in all different shapes and sizes and the saddle adjustment alone wouldn’t be enough. We have had great feedback from customers about their experience. A good endorsement is the fact that two of our friends, after borrowing bikes from us, have bought one for themselves. We have just added a couple of ladies open frame bikes to our fleet and are equally impressed with these. We also have two MX24 kid’s bikes and cannot fault them.

Obviously the bikes are a massive part of our business and we did a lot of research before deciding on the Velocity. It is nice to see that they live up to expectations and we look forward to adding to our stock in the future.
