“Fantastic, friendly and helpful people”

Special thanks to Michael who on a Sunday gave up his breakfast to help stranded cyclists on our trip to mizen. A shattered gear mechanism and bent wheel was fixed in short time using parts from his own bicycle. We can’t thank Michael enough. If you are in the area, please go and see him. First class service and incredible talent! Thank you again. Steve, Rob and Rebecca

We liked the fact that we would get help if there was any problem with the bikes. Others expect you to mend punctures yourself.
The hotels were mostly good. We didn’t like the hotel in Buncrana. It was smelly. There was a problem at Mc Grorys on the final night. There was a music event beneath our room. The proprietor did move us (very graciously)
We enjoyed receiving our daily gifts from Blaise. A big selling point was the friendliness of people.
We would seriously consider coming again
Thanks a lot

“Getting around in inishowen”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We rented a house in inishowen for a few weeks and decided to rent bikes during our stay there. Cycle inishowen delivered to our door with all the gear we needed and with perfectly maintained bikes and maps. We were able to tour around our area at our own leisure, bike to the local beaches, stores and just explore. Although being from Canada it was a little intimidating biking on roads with no shoulders we found the drivers very accommodating. A great way to see the area and a great little business.

“A must do in Inishowen!”

This is a great day out for young and old. Cycle Inishowen can drive to your location to provide you with bikes or you can cycle to your destination and get a lift back home again. Oggy and Blaise were very friendly and helpful and it was great value to rent the bikes for the day (we were a group of 5 and got discount.) If you are visiting the area or even if you live in Inishowen you should def give this a go!

We spent the better part of a very rainy day with Blaise, cycling from Carndonagh to Malin Head. We were treated like old friends by Blaise and Oggy (not sure of spelling), from the moment we arrived. The bikes were of excellent quality and in perfect condition. We hired Blaise to guide us on our ride.
We were fitted for our bikes, helmets and rain gear and off we went. Blaise grew up here so her knowledge of the area is extensive and entertaining. No matter if it’s history, faerie tales or local interest, we loved learning about this beautiful area from someone who obviously is proud of her heritage.
We took back roads so traffic was rare. Some of the hills were difficult for me (I’m no spring chicken), but Blaise never made me feel rushed or inadequate. She just got off her bike and walked along side of me, chatting amiably, although she easily could have gone on.
The scenery was incredible, even through the rain. Every turn in the road brought new wonders.
We stopped at a lovely spot and had a delicious lunch with a great view. Then, when we arrived at Malin Head, the sun came out, as if on cue, and we relaxed on the grassy hillside overlooking the ocean, and dried off in the warmth of the day.
Definitely one of the highlights of our two week trip to Ireland.

We love biking as a family and hired bikes from Cycle Inishowen to make a trip to the beautiful Malin Head. Oggy and Blaise were so helpful and friendly and explained the best routes, kitted us out with fantastic bikes, helmets, rain jackets, maps, repair kits etc. – everything we needed!
the scenery and views were beautiful and we had such a great day – the sore bums were well worth it!!!
Cycle Inishowen is highly recommended in our book! Thank you very much 🙂

An excellent service with delightful staff – a brilliant day out for all the family! My younger brother and I arrived at the cycle inishowen offices, and were met by the lovely Blaise. She advised us of the best routes to take, and before long we were off on our Inishowen adventure. Not being much of an athlete, I worried I’d have to call the office to have them pick me up, but the route we took was relaxed and even, so when we returned 22km later I was feeling great! The scenery is just beautiful and there’s really no better way to take it all in than from a bike. Amazing value for money too – I couldn’t recommend Cycle Inishowen highly enough.

I visited Clomany over Easter and hired a bicycle from Cycle Inishowen.
All correspondence via email was excellent and the guys were willing to meet my needs by proving a road bike with extra tubes, pump etc (thankfully I didn’t need them!).
The bike was delivered and picked up from the cottage I was staying in which was great.
I had a lovely time cycling around Doagh Island and surrounding areas.
I would recommend Cycle Inishowen and look forward to a visit in the future.

We took advantage of great offer for Paddy’s Day and cycled to Malin Head getting a pint in the Seaview Tavern and a lift home as reward for our efforts.

It was quite windy and we are not experienced cyclists so was a bit nervous starting off. The gear is great, we were well kitted out and the hybrid bikes are sturdy enough for the inexperienced and have enough range in the gears to get you up and down the hills pretty easily. Maps and vouchers provided are excellent.

The scenery in Inishowen is some of the best in the country. I’ve visited many times, but seeing it by bike was amazing. You notice things you’d never see zooming past in the car, and with all the new lambs around, it was brilliant. Also I’d never have gone
to the Seaview Tavern without the pint incentive, and it’s a lovely spot with great food.

I would thoroughly recommend, even if you’re not a cyclist. You can take it your own pace, so you don’t need any Lance Armstrong style supplements to get up the hills, just walk a bit if you find it tiring 🙂

The Cycle Inishowen team are so helpful, as soon as the trip was over I’m wondering when I can go back and discover more of Donegal by bike.

Cycle Inishowen organized a three-night self-catering holiday for me and three of the men in my life – my husband, my father, and my one-year-old son. We stayed in the Red Row Cottage in Culdaff, just across the road from McGrory’s pub.

Surely the most striking thing about cycling with Cycle Inishowen is the equipment! Our bikes were a pleasure to ride – they’re clearly top of the range and lovingly maintained. Cycle Inishowen provided a baby seat, which my son was very comfortable in. In fact, he fell asleep in it more than once! (That’s when he wasn’t grinning his head off.) They also provided maps, helmets, panniers, rain jackets and lots of help and advice.

The accommodation they organized for us was downright jolly. It’s a cozy little cottage, and Blaise and Oggy helped us out with tea and milk upon arrival, just to make it that bit more cozy.

I’m married to Blaise’s brother, so you may not believe me when I tell you how kind and helpful and competent Blaise and Oggy themselves are, but they’re wonderful!

The only low point on the trip was some unfriendly service at McGrory’s pub, where we spent quite a bit of time when we weren’t cycling. (As a young family, we may have tested the limits of their hospitality – but still!)

As for the cycling itself, it was pure lovely.

Late last night we decided to cycle Inishowen today. I left a phone message, expecting that with no notice, the chances of cycling were poor. But I got a call back from Blaise. It was a scramble but we took the bus from Derry and the timing all worked out.
Michael and Blaise were cheerful and helpful. The bikes are hybrid, well serviced and tuned. ( I notice these things as a breakdown can ruin a trip).
What a day! The weather was perfect. We cycled to Malin Head and back from Carndonagh. Scenery was spectacular.

Michael and Blaise of Cycle Inishowen were absolutely wonderful to work with. My wife and I found out upon arriving in Ireland that we were unable to hire a car. Cycle Inishowen saved our honeymoon! Not only was it exactly the service we needed, but it was performed above and beyond our expectations, with bike delivery and pick up, as well as very friendly service. Biking through Inishowen is the ONLY way to experience traveling through Inishowen. If we could do it over again, we forget hiring a car and go straight to Cycle Inishowen. Thank you Michael and Blaise for all your help and kindness. We hope to be back someday. Lots of love from the States! – Adam and Chelsey

This was by far the best bike rental experience I’ve had, bar none. We were fully equipped for an afternoon ride out to Malin Head, including brand new hybrid bikes, panniers, handlebar bags, even bright vests. Also included ordnance survey maps, which were super helpful once their users figured out how to read them 🙂

Cycle Inishowen provides everything you could need for a fantastic day of biking– hybrid bikes in virtually-new condition (with a good set of tires, too!), a rack and panniers, maps, a patch kit and inner tube, pump, locks, day-glo safety windbreakers (the nice kind with the fuzzy collars :)). The only things missing are snacks and sunshine! The first is easy enough to come by, since the peninsula is dotted with towns with a variety of amenities, making it convenient to do both casual rides or longer tours. As for the sunshine… well, hopefully you’ll be as lucky as we were with the weather. If not, the bikes have fenders, so you won’t get covered in wet road grit!

Most importantly, the bikes work perfectly. If you’ve ever rented bikes on vacation before, you know how rare and precious such a find is, especially at such a reasonable price. The owners are clearly cyclists (and mechanics) who have thought through exactly what makes for a pleasant (and safe) bike ride.

My husband and I rented two bikes for the day, and rode from Carndonagh to Malin Head on beautiful, very low-traffic, scenic backroads. We’re pretty active cyclists in the US, and have absolutely loved our time biking in Ireland. I’m convinced that this is cycling paradise– we’ve encountered only polite drivers that slow down and give us space, and miles and miles of (mostly) good pavement. We actually felt quite safe even on the busier regional roads on Inishowen. There is some elevation change in the area, but the range of gears on the bikes makes it all very accessible. And it’s very much worth it for the gorgeous views!

When we come to Ireland again, we will have to plan a multi-day bike tour in Donegal with Cycle Inishowen 🙂

My sister and I had a great day cycling in Inishowen thanks to Cycle Inishowen. They were able to provide two really comfortable bikes at short notice with all the gear necessary for a great day – right down to maps and advice on where to go to avoid hills, etc. My only regret was that I wasn’t at the shop the minute it opened to get the most out of the day. As for my sister, well eventhough it was her first time cycling in 30 years, I think she is now a dedicated fan of cycling!

“Scorchio and fun all the way!”

5 of 5 starsReviewed June 9, 2013

The hottest day in June 2013 and what better way to spend it but on a bike! We did the big loop from Culdaff to Malin and it was fantastic! We are both keen cyclists of a certain age and Michael and Blaise were brilliant ! Michael set the bikes up perfectly. Blaise was a great guide, she had a story about nearly everything and could answer just about every question. It was more like a gentle cycle with a friend through some spectacular scenery than a guided tour. Of course, there were hills but great descents. The rewards were pretty good, Dominic at Caffe Banba at Banba’s Crown was outstanding…the coffee was amazing and ‘Football Special’ is worth a try. We couldn’t see Jura but the views were amazing. The roads were quiet, the natives friendly, the strands sandy and I would recommend it to anyone who fancies a wee toddle on the bike.
We specifically were on a tight schedule and one day suited us. However, even if we had had a few days more, I still think a day out with Blaise would be an excellent investment. She pointed out different places and things for ‘our next trip’.
Finally, both Blaise and Michael are obviously putting themselves into their business and , rather than giving your tourist euro to an anonymous big company, support these guys. Their obvious love for Donegal and cycling really stood out.

So glad I didn’t bring my own bike…

Cycle Inishowen did an excellent job of providing us with two lightweight, multi speed bicycles and all the gear needed for a great ride around this beautiful part of Co. Donegal. They delivered and collected the bikes at our hotel. All the equipment was in great condition and quite new. In fact, these bicycles rode better than our own travel bikes which we often pack in suitcases and bring along on trips. In addition, they offered helpful cycling advice since they are expert cyclists and quite knowledgeable about the area. So don’t miss a visit to beautiful Inishowen. When you come make sure to contact Cycle Inishowen. They even provided locks, panniers, helmets and high visibility rain jackets. They went to the extra trouble of filling our water bottles! The whole experience was very reasonably priced. I can’t even think of a way to improve on their service. Perhaps next time I would hire them to put together and lead a ride. I am one grateful cyclist.

We had a wonderful trip around Inishowen and want to come again to do the Inishowen 100. It is an exceptionally beautiful place to explore by bike and the people you meet along the way are incredibly friendly. I had my doubts about visiting the Famine Museum but it was one of the highlights–the tour guide is the real deal (a
lifelong resident) and shares experiences of a vanishing lifestyle that you will hear nowhere else. Be prepared to encounter herds of sheep or cows on the road and the occasional burst of rain–all part of the Irish experience. Make sure you visit Pascal’s Patisserie for very non-Irish food. If your trip allows, visit Derry and walk the walls. It is a city with a history worth learning about.

Michael and Blaise made the trip a breeze–taking care of all the details so we could just enjoy traveling around.

Great Cycle Hire

We hired 8 bikes for the day to cycle around Malin and the wider Donegal area. The team from Cycle Inishowen were extremely helpful; delivering the bikes, fitting the bikes to each rider and providing everything we could need – helmets, maps, jackets, puncture kits.. Malin and the surrounding areas are very beautiful and offer some excellent cycling – challenging hills if you’re looking for them, or reasonably flat routes for a more sedate ride!

Excellent cycle hire company!

Our wonderful, modern and easy-to-ride bikes arrived on time (despite our cottage in rural Malin having no official address!), and were sized according to our various heights and requirements. Everyone in our group was given everything a holidaying-cyclist could ask for – hi-vis jackets, panniers (both side and handlebar), pumps, locks and helmets.

The guys were really friendly, giving us advice on routes, and even offered to pick us and the bikes up from wherever we ended up, should we have tired ourselves out after a day’s cycling! The cost for the day was really very reasonable too.

Fantastic company to hire bikes from!
