Cycle Inishowen are constantly encouraging tourists to leave their cars and explore the area by bike instead. Naturally the cycling itself has very little impact on the environment, but here at Cycle Inishowen we work hard behind the scenes to ensure that other elements of the business meet our high environmental standards. We go the extra mile to make sure your cycling holiday is as eco-friendly as it could be and employ industry best practice in this regard; using biodegradable cleaning products and utilising energy from renewable sources as well as energy and water saving methods. All of our bikes are supplied direct from an Irish bike shop without the need for wasteful packaging. All of our cleaning and lubrication products, greasesand oils are biodegradable, and we wash the bikes using harvested rainwater. When our bikes reach the end of their life with us they are donated to charity.
We aim to use only recycled paper, reduce printing and recycle as much of our waste as is possible. We have donated over 200 native Irish trees to community groups and Tidy Towns Associations within Inishowen to offset the carbon produced by our support vehicle from our previous season. If you visit the Getting here page you will find a carbon calculator if you wish to offset the carbon generated by visiting us as well as suggestions on more environmentally sustainable methods of reaching Inishowen. Every so often we are lucky enough to get a little industry recognition for what we do and have scooped up the following:
October 2014 – Green Biz Environmental Award from STEM Project
May 2014 – National Award for Environmental Leadership from JCI
May 2014 – County Award for Environmental Leadership from JCI
May 2013 – Accredited Eco-Label by Green Hospitality Awards
Cycle Inishowen is also a member of the Inishowen Eco-Tourism Network.
